Yesterday I saw a post on Threads from someone upset that we are on the precipice of losing our country to fascist ideology that would subject us to an authoritarian regime (I checked with a political scientist to make sure I expressed that correctly) and people are not talking about it.
Rachel, I'm frightened and I don't have a husband that spoke truth to power and drew the ire of the Mango Manchild. I fret daily about renewing my passport in case I can't live here because the fascists won. It breaks my heart that the country of my birth is so close to ruin. I don't know what I can do. Logic and expressing the truth was always my weapon, but people won't engage in discussion. Even Democrats don't have a clue all that President Biden has done since his election. It's daunting.
I don't blame you at all for feeling nervous and/or scared. I share the same fears and I don't have the level of personal connection to situation that you do. Hang in there!
I am frightened also. I have been married (32 years) to another woman. It does not feel too great being part of the LGBTQ+ community these days. Both of her parents were born in Canada so she is working on obtaining her Canadian citizenship. Perhaps we can use that as a backup.
I agree with Deborah ... thank you and your husband for putting your lives on the line and fighting the good fight!
I hope you and your family aren’t faced with escaping the country. I do believe you have reason to concern. Your husband’s courage should be rewarded not punished. I also work as a volunteer for the Florida Democratic Party so our imperfect democracy can continue.
Rachel, I deleted my 12-years long Facebook account about a year ago due to my fundamental, principled disagreement with its marketing surveillance business model, and more specifically because after watching Mark Zuckerberg squirm around in the hot seat as he attempted to evasively answer congressional questions about his company's invasive privacy practices I realized that I simply did not trust him or his corporation to take a moral high road in their dealings with the website's customers.
Lately though as my own readership subscriber numbers have been increasing here at Substack I have been considering, quite hesitantly, whether or not it might be worth my while to create a new Facebook account to connect my Substack to for increasing exposure to my writings.
Threads is a Facebook service which I would expect to probably have access to with a Facebook account.
Reading about your experience on your own Threads account has me wondering what your thoughts are about Facebook and Threads; What might your advise to me be about possibly rejoining that Platform to expand my battle with MAGA and Fascism in general? Thank you.

I HATE that you have to fear for this, but it is true. I am so sorry that there is so much hate.
Thank you for putting your family on the line and saying what needs to be said. I'll never understand why intelligent people would vote for tRump.
