Quick post this morning to say YAY, NY-03!!!
Yesterday was a bit gloomy with the House refusing to vote on aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan while voting to impeach Secretary Mayorkas. The House Republicans were so proud of that vote that will go absolutely nowhere but they did it because they knew they were going to lose another seat when the votes were tallied. Many people poured hours of their time into the Suozzi campaign by canvasing and reaching out to voters and it worked.
This is something we need to celebrate today! Not only does it shrink the Republican’s majority, it’s a blueprint for how we win in November:
· Personally engage voters.
· Pay no attention to polls or media analysis and predictions.
· Participate in the primary process to ensure the best candidates are on the ballots.
· Recognize voters choose the issues that are important to them and the candidates’ job is to offer solutions.
The last point is of particular interest because this was traditionally a solid Democrat seat, but it was flipped in 2022. Santos won despite raising less money than his opponent because he was willing to talk about issues important to voters. They felt heard and seen. Too often politicians try to avoid complex issues which is a huge mistake. Voters are tired of politicians who kick the can down the road by just telling them what they want to hear, but not doing anything to fix the problems we face every day.
I seem to write about authenticity even when I don’t plan to, but it really does go back to that every time.
It’s Valentine’s Day and I’m just a middle-aged suburban woman standing here begging elected officials and candidates to embrace the messiness of life and do their level best meet our challenges head on.
Just keep doing what you’re doing! You’re making a difference! Happy Valentines Day too 💖
Keep on. One thing you’re not is just a middle aged suburban woman. You are a breath of fresh air. You are making a difference in our world.
