I didn’t want my brother-in-law Eugene to run for Congress. I thought we had all been in the public eye enough and suffered because of that and why would anyone volunteer for more?! He was doing good and interesting things since retiring from the army and why disrupt that?
You already know how this story ends: No one cared what I thought.
When he announced his candidacy it was welcomed by many supporters who sent him a flood of small dollar donations, while more than a few establishment Democrats in the district openly criticized his lack of involvement in local politics. Not only is that not true, it hurt to have “our” side dismiss his twenty-plus year career and they didn’t just do it once, it continued through Virginia’s primary day yesterday and even today. Eugene and Cindy’s family moved to Virginia – four houses down from us! – in 2016, a year after we moved to the area. In a historically transient area, their family is far from ‘new’ and he has been involved in many aspects of local life and service to his community. They even chose to stay after retirement unlike our family.
But I’m here to tell you, those Vindman twins don’t quit when the going gets tough…no matter what their wives say. Eugene didn’t rely on his name recognition, though, I am here to tell you he put in the work. It was truly a privilege to watch as he built a team to help him meet, listen to, and connect with as many voters as possible.
I love Eugene, but I will freely admit we’ve had our challenges over the years which mostly stems from boundaries and who is closer to Alex. Identical twins, y’all. When Eugene launched his campaign, Alex put everything on hold and leveraged all his contacts to help his brother. And now I will find the time to go to Virginia and help also because Eugene and Cindy were there for us when we needed it and we will be there for them
.Thank you to the VOTERS of VA-07 who voted for Eugene! Thank you to everyone who has donated their time and treasure to his campaign! Thank you to the army of supporters who have shown love and kindness to all the Vindmans through these many turbulent years! We are unendingly grateful and we appreciate you more than we could ever express
.
Eugene is going to make a wonderful Congressman - yes, I am predicting a win - and it was a pleasure to make a small contribution to the primary. We need more good men and women who understand the concepts of service before self and decency to drown out the crazy in Congress.
Congratulations!! We contributed to Eugene's campaign monthly from PA and will continue to do so.
